Group birthday card
The group birthday card everyone signs online, even from far away
Updated · by Milad, founder of Ouvella
For a coworker, a teammate working remotely, a friend or a milestone birthday: you create the card, share one link, and everyone adds a message from their phone, with a photo or a voice note if they like. No signer can read the others’ messages (only you and the birthday person see them all), and on the day the card opens all at once, as a slideshow if you are together. €14.99 once for the whole group, no subscription, no account.

Who it’s for
A coworker
Cake in the break room, the card on the big screen, and the coworkers working from home have signed too.
A remote team
Everyone signs from wherever they are. On the day, share your screen on the video call and start the slideshow.
A friend
The group is scattered across cities? One link in the group chat, and everyone ends up on the same card.
A milestone birthday
30, 40, 50 or 60: messages from every chapter of their life, from childhood friends to today’s colleagues.
Family far away
Grandma’s 80th: the grandkids abroad send a voice note, and the booklet is printed for her to keep.

How to send a group birthday card online, step by step
- Step 1
Create the card
Choose “Birthday”, then add their first name, a title and a short intro. A cover photo and the date are optional; with a date, everyone sees how long they have left to sign.
- Step 2
Write your message first
It becomes the first message on the card, and it gives everyone else a nudge.
- Step 3
Share one link
Paste the ready-made invitation into Slack, Teams, WhatsApp or an email. Everyone signs from their phone or computer, no account needed.
- Step 4
Watch the messages arrive
Your private organizer link shows every message as it comes in, and lets you remove one if needed. Left your email? You get a reminder two days before the date.
- Step 5
Pay once and deliver it
Pay €14.99 for the whole group, before or after collecting the messages. You get a link and a QR code: send it on the morning of the birthday, or open it on a screen at the party.
Tip for a team birthday: start the card a week ahead and set the date. Everyone who opens the link sees the deadline, which is usually all it takes.
Signing the card: two minutes, no account
This is what your coworkers see when they open the link to sign the birthday card. Nothing to install, on a phone or a computer.
- Open the link and type a first name.
- Write a message of up to 1,000 characters. Stuck? “Need some inspiration?” offers a few writing prompts.
- Add a photo, or record a voice note of up to one minute right in the browser.
- Pick a paper color, check the preview, and send.
- Change your mind later? You can edit or remove your message from the same device, and add another one for a coworker sitting next to you.
A real surprise, right to the end
On a paper card going around the office, everyone reads the messages above theirs, and the card sometimes crosses the birthday person’s desk. Here, people who sign only see their own message and how many others have signed. Only the person celebrating reads everything, all at once. You, the organizer, can read the messages too, to check them before the day.
- At the office: open the card on the break-room TV when the cake comes out, and start the slideshow.
- On a video call: share your screen and play the slideshow while everyone is on camera.
- From afar: send the link on the morning of the birthday, or slip the printed QR code into the gift.
Afterwards, they keep the online card with every voice note, a keepsake booklet to print or save as a PDF, and a button to send a thank-you that reaches you, the organizer.
Is there a free group birthday card online?
Honest answer: yes, there are free ways to do it, and for some groups they are enough.
- A paper card passed around: free and tangible, but remote coworkers miss it and everyone reads the messages above theirs.
- A shared slide deck or document: free and flexible, but anyone with the link sees everything, and someone has to make it look like a card.
- A thread or video messages in the group chat: free and instant, but it scrolls away, and the birthday person may well be in that chat.
- The free plan of a group card website: some services offer one; check on their pricing page what it includes (number of signers, photos, downloads) before you start collecting messages.
Ouvella has no free plan. Creating the card, collecting messages and previewing it are free, and the organizer pays €14.99 once, for the whole group, to get the link and QR code to give. Split ten ways, that is about €1.50 per person. For a side-by-side look at one of the best-known group card services, see our Kudoboard alternative page.

Frequently asked questions
How much does the group birthday card cost?
€14.99, paid once by the organizer, for the whole group, up to 200 messages. There is no subscription, and signing the card is free for everyone.
Is there a free group birthday card online?
Ouvella has no free plan: creating the card, collecting the messages and previewing it cost nothing, and the organizer pays €14.99 once to give it. Free options do exist (a paper card, a shared slide deck, a group chat thread, the free plans of some group card sites), each with trade-offs described on this page.
How do I send a group birthday card online?
Create the card (their first name, a title, a short intro), write your own message, then share one link in your team chat or by email. Everyone signs from their phone. On the birthday, send the person the link or open the card on a screen, as a slideshow if you are together.
Can coworkers see each other’s messages?
No. When signing, people only see how many others have already signed, and their own message. Only the birthday person reads every message, plus you as the organizer, so you can check everything before the day.
How do people sign the birthday card?
They open the link, type their first name and a message, add a photo or a one-minute voice note if they like, and pick a paper color. No account, about two minutes. They can edit their message later from the same device.
How do we show the card at the office or on a video call?
After payment you get a link and a QR code. Open the card on the break-room TV, or share your screen on the video call, and start the slideshow mode: the messages play full screen. Or simply send the link on the morning of the birthday.
Can we collect money for a birthday gift with the card?
Yes. Paste the link of your online collection into the card: it is shown to the people who sign, never to the birthday person. Ouvella never handles the money, it is just a link.
Can friends and family in other countries sign?
Yes, from anywhere, with just the link and no account. The card can be displayed in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian or Brazilian Portuguese, and each message stays in the language it was written in.
