Digital gifts for a long-distance relationship: 8 sites and apps compared
Updated · by Milad, founder of Ouvella
When you live apart, a digital gift has two things going for it: nothing to ship, and it can land at the right moment even when that moment is the middle of your night. The options are very different though: a 3D room you explore together, a card scheduled to the minute, a free animated note, a video of you in their room, a daily couples app, a shared movie night. We read the official pages of eight of them so you can pick in a few minutes.
The short version: for something to do together on a video call, Our GiftVerse. For a card that arrives at the exact minute in their time zone, Heartdrop. For zero cost, AIskyla. For a surprise with your voice, your photos and a letter that unlocks at the exact minute you choose (in your time zone or theirs), Ouvella, at €9.99 once.
Ouvella is our product. So we are not neutral: we listed it with its limits, we say plainly when another option fits better, and every fact about the others comes from their own pages, read on November 2, 2026 and listed at the bottom. No affiliate links, and nobody paid to be here.

Best for a short letter in an animated envelope, free
A digital love letter that opens in an animated envelope from a private link, designed with long-distance couples in mind.

You record a short video of yourself, and your partner opens a link that places you in their room through their phone camera (augmented reality).

Product 6: FeelClose

- Their local time and weather next to yours
- Premium can seal a photo until a day you pick
- The same question for both of you every day

- Both partners need an iPhone and an account (Android is “coming soon”)
- English only, and it is a daily app rather than a surprise to open
Product 7: Teleparty

Good to know
- Each of you needs the streaming account and the extension or app

Real screenshots of an Ouvella interactive gift, as the recipient sees it on their phone (an example in French, with made-up text).
Number 8, in full transparency
Ouvella is an independent site, created by Milad. We built it for the moment a long-distance couple knows well: you want them to have something to open at their midnight, and you are asleep, at work or on a plane. You set it for midnight in their time zone, with no conversion (the editor shows what time that is for you), send the link whenever you like, and it unlocks at that exact minute, with a countdown until then. Pick Ouvella if:
- you want it to unlock at a precise moment in their day, not when you happen to press send
- you want your own voice in it, next to your letter and your photos
- you’d rather pay once (€9.99) than subscribe, with nothing for them to install
- you want to count down to your next visit, one door a day, with our countdown calendar (€14.99)
Pick something else if you want to play inside the gift together live (Our GiftVerse), if you want it written for you (Heartdrop), or if it has to be free (AIskyla, Letters by Heart).
Getting the time zone right
The best digital gift arrives when it means something: midnight on their birthday, the morning of your anniversary, the minute their flight lands. Three ways to get there:
- Let the site do it. Heartdrop asks for the recipient’s time zone and the exact minute. Ouvella lets you pick their time zone too, so there is nothing to convert: if they are six hours behind you, the editor shows that midnight for them is 6 a.m. for you, and you can be fast asleep when it unlocks.
- Seal it until the day. FeelClose Premium seals a photo until a day you pick; your partner only sees that something is waiting.
- Send it yourself. Our GiftVerse and AIskyla advise sending the link at midnight or in the morning their time. Set an alarm, or ask a friend in their time zone.

Free digital gifts for long-distance couples
What genuinely costs nothing, and where each idea falls short.
A free animated note
Good: AIskyla’s “open when” envelopes or a 100-character Letters by Heart note cost nothing and take a minute.
Catch: AIskyla removes photos and music after 15 days; Letters by Heart’s free note is very short.
A movie night
Good: Teleparty’s free plan syncs the show and adds a text chat, if you both have the same streaming service.
Catch: Voice and video chat need Premium, and it only works while you watch together.
A shared playlist and a voice memo
Good: A playlist built together and a voice memo recorded on your phone are free, and very personal.
Catch: Nothing frames them as a gift: they arrive in the chat like any other message.
A countdown to your next visit
Good: FeelClose’s free plan keeps one shared countdown, with their local time and weather, on both iPhones.
Catch: Both of you need an iPhone and an account.
How to choose, in 4 questions
1. A moment, or a habit?
A birthday, an anniversary or Valentine’s Day calls for one surprise: Our GiftVerse, Heartdrop, AIskyla, Letters by Heart, MessageAR or Ouvella. Feeling close on an ordinary Tuesday is a habit: FeelClose for a daily ritual, Teleparty for a weekly movie night.
2. Together, or as a surprise?
Our GiftVerse and Teleparty are best on a call, living it at the same time. A letter, a scheduled card or an Ouvella surprise is opened alone first, then talked about, which some people find more moving.
3. Should it last?
If they will open it again in a year, check how long it stays online: never expires (Our GiftVerse), indefinitely (Heartdrop), at least 5 years (Ouvella), 15 days for AIskyla’s photos and music, 14 or 30 days for a MessageAR link.
4. Whose words, whose voice?
Heartdrop writes the card from your description. Letters by Heart, AIskyla, Our GiftVerse and Ouvella use your own words; MessageAR shows you on video, and Ouvella carries your recorded voice. Stuck on the words? Our paragraphs for your girlfriend are free to borrow. For Valentine’s Day, see also the best virtual Valentine’s gift websites.
How we made this list
- What Americans see. On November 2, 2026 we searched Bing (US market) and Google (US) for “digital gifts for long distance relationship” and similar queries, and kept the products their results and AI answers point to, one or two per kind of gift.
- Official pages only. Each product’s home, pricing, FAQ or support pages, and for FeelClose its App Store listing. No third-party reviews, nothing from memory: the addresses are in the sources below.
- What we didn’t do. We did not buy every product. When a page doesn’t say, we write “not stated” rather than guess.
- Ouvella is our product. It is on the list with its limits, and the order is not a ranking. No affiliate links, and nobody paid to appear.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best digital gift for a long-distance relationship?
There isn’t a single one: it depends on what you want them to feel. To explore something together on a video call, Our GiftVerse’s 3D room. For a card that arrives at the exact minute in their time zone, Heartdrop. For a free note, AIskyla or Letters by Heart. To see you “appear” in their room, MessageAR. For a daily ritual, FeelClose; for movie nights, Teleparty. For a surprise with your voice, your photos and a letter that unlocks at the exact minute you choose, Ouvella (our product, €9.99).
Can a digital gift open at midnight in their time zone?
Yes, on some sites. Heartdrop lets you pick the recipient’s time zone and the exact minute. Ouvella unlocks at the date and time you set, in your time zone or your partner’s; until then your partner sees a countdown and nothing inside. FeelClose Premium can seal a photo until a chosen day. Our GiftVerse, AIskyla, Letters by Heart and MessageAR do not state a scheduled opening, so you send the link at the right moment yourself.
Are there free digital gifts for long-distance couples?
Yes. AIskyla is free with ads (photos and music are removed after 15 days). Letters by Heart is free up to 100 characters. Teleparty’s free plan syncs your streaming with a text chat. FeelClose’s core features are free, on two iPhones. Our GiftVerse, Heartdrop, MessageAR and Ouvella are paid, from $2.99 to $25.99 or €9.99 once.
Which digital gifts last?
Our GiftVerse says its gift never expires, and Heartdrop says a sent link stays active indefinitely. Ouvella keeps each gift online for at least 5 years. AIskyla removes photos and music after 15 days, and MessageAR links last 14 or 30 days. Letters by Heart does not state it.
Does my partner need an app or an account?
Not for most of them: Our GiftVerse (a room ID and password), Heartdrop, AIskyla, Letters by Heart, MessageAR (on a smartphone) and Ouvella open in a browser with nothing to create. FeelClose needs an iPhone and an account for both of you. Teleparty needs the streaming account and the extension or app on each side.
How do we count down to our next visit?
FeelClose keeps one shared countdown to the next visit in its free plan, on two iPhones. Ouvella’s countdown calendar (€14.99) gives one door a day, from 3 to 31 doors, with the last one opening on the day you see each other again; your partner can choose to get a short email each morning when a new door opens.
What can we do together, live?
Our GiftVerse lets you both be inside the 3D gift at the same time, for example on a video call. Teleparty syncs a film or a series with a chat, and voice and video on Premium. FeelClose gives you both the same question every day. Ouvella is opened by your partner alone, then they can send you a reaction.
