Advent calendar for her

An Advent calendar for your girlfriend: 24 door ideas, all about her

Updated · by Milad, founder of Ouvella

Beauty, tea and chocolate calendars are everywhere in December. What she has never had is 24 doors about her: the thing she said on your second date, the song from your first road trip, your voice saying good night. Here are 24 ideas to fill them, a few DIY fillers if you want a physical box too, and how our digital calendar works: one door a day from December 1 to 24, opening at midnight her time. €14.99 once, no subscription, no account.

Created before December 1, your Advent calendar opens its first door on the 1st at midnight, in the recipient’s time zone. After the 1st it is not too late: until the 24th, the doors of the days already gone are open as soon as it arrives.

What she discovers every day

The surprise calendar in 3D: one door to open each day, the first ones already open.
The real calendar, in 3D (Ouvella color).
  • One door a day, at midnightToday’s door opens at midnight where she lives. The next ones stay shut, and their contents aren’t sent ahead of time: no peeking.
  • Your welcome noteThe calendar’s title and a short note from you, as soon as she opens the link.
  • A note, a photo, your voiceBehind each door: your message, a photo, a voice note or a song, plus a link if you like.
  • A countdownBefore December 1, then until the next door. Half the charm is the waiting.
  • The doors already openedThey stay open, so she can reread your words whenever she wants.
  • A 3D calendarDoors to open with a fingertip. If her phone struggles, the simple view is in the “⋯” menu.

What makes an Advent calendar feel personal to her?

Proof that you listen. A door that remembers something she said in passing, the café she wanted to try, the book she mentioned in September, says more than any compliment.

Rhythm. Alternate a memory, a voice note, a plan, a laugh, so each morning feels different. And don’t spend your strongest door on the 3rd: build toward the 24th.

Her, not “a girlfriend”. Skip the quotes that could be about anyone. If words don’t come easily, start from our paragraphs for your girlfriend, then add one detail only you know. With Ouvella, every door can hold a title, a message, a photo, an audio clip and a link at the same time.

How it works, in 3 steps

  1. Step 1

    Create her calendar

Pick the Advent calendar (24 doors, December 1 to 24) or a shorter countdown. A title, a welcome note, a color, then the doors: a message, a photo, your voice, a link. You see the preview before paying.

  2. Step 2

    Send her the link

After payment (€14.99) you get a private link and a QR code: send it by message, or slip the QR code into a card on November 30. Before the first day, she sees a countdown.

  3. Step 3

    One door a day

At midnight in her time zone: you pick where she lives and the calendar takes care of the rest. Opened doors can be revisited any time.

Busy December? After payment you keep a private link to complete the doors whenever you like, even the day before. If a door is still empty the day before it opens, we send you an email reminder. A door that is already open can still be edited: she will see the new version.

Six themes for her 24 doors

A thread turns 24 surprises into one story. Pick the one that sounds most like the two of you.

  • 24 things I love about you

One per door, specific and in your own words. Keep the one that will make her cry for the 24th.

  • Our year in 24 photos

One photo per door, in order, with a line on what happened just before or just after it was taken.

  • The soundtrack of us

One song a day that marks a moment of your story (a YouTube link plays inside the door), with a sentence on why.

  • Small kindnesses

A coupon per door for something that makes her December lighter: you plan the weekend, you take the dishes, you wrap the presents for her family.

  • Far from each other

The doors open at midnight her time, wherever she lives, and there is nothing to mail. See our long distance Advent calendar page.

  • A trail to the big surprise

Each door adds a clue and door 24 reveals the weekend away, the concert, or the date you’ll see each other again.

24 Advent calendar ideas for your girlfriend

A door holds a title, a message (up to 1,200 characters), a photo, an audio clip (your voice or a song) and a link. These 24 are a starting point: swap in your places, your songs, your jokes.

Words that sound like you

  1. 1

The first thing you noticed about her, and the second thing, the one that made you stay.

  2. 2

Something she said in passing months ago, and proof you remembered: you booked it, found it or did it.

  3. 3

Five ordinary moments with her you’d happily live again: a Tuesday breakfast, a walk in the rain, a long drive with bad snacks.

  4. 4

What you admire about the way she handles hard days, without using the word “strong”.

  5. 5

What you would tell yourself on the day you met her, if you could go back.

Photos

  1. 6

Your favorite photo of her, one she has never seen, titled “My favorite version of you”.

  2. 7

An old photo of you two recreated in the same pose, both shots side by side in one image.

  3. 8

A place that is yours (the bench, the bar, the corner of the park), photographed this week.

  4. 9

Something of hers that has lived at your place for months and that you never gave back.

  5. 10

A screenshot of the message where you knew it was serious.

Your voice and music

  1. 11

A voice note to wake up to: one minute of good morning, the weather where you are, and why she’s on your mind.

  2. 12

You reading her favorite poem out loud.

  3. 13

The song from your first road trip, or your first dance in the kitchen, as a YouTube link that plays in the door.

  4. 14

Her best friend telling the story of the first time she talked about you (record it on your phone, then add the file).

  5. 15

A short, calm voice note for the night before her big day at work or her exam.

Little kindnesses

  1. 16

A coupon: you plan the whole Saturday, she doesn’t have to decide a single thing.

  2. 17

A coupon to skip a chore she hates, valid until New Year’s Eve.

  3. 18

A coupon for the film of her choice, no complaints, snacks included.

  4. 19

An evening off: you handle dinner and the dishes, she gets the bath and the remote.

Plans for the two of you

  1. 20

The link to the restaurant or the show you booked, with the date as the door’s title.

  2. 21

A recipe from her family or her home country that you’ll attempt this weekend, with “be kind” in the message.

  3. 22

A weekend idea for January: a photo of the place and two dates to choose from.

  4. 23

Tonight’s film, to watch together, or at the same time on a call if you’re apart.

The last door

  1. 24

A real letter (up to 1,200 characters), your favorite photo of the year and the big surprise: a trip, a concert, the date you’ll be together for New Year’s Eve.

DIY, ready-made or digital?

A DIY Advent calendar for your girlfriend (numbered envelopes, a box of little drawers, kraft bags pinned to a string) is lovely to see on the wall every morning if you live together. The trick is small and specific: her favorite tea in single bags, a lip balm in the flavor she always buys, one good chocolate rather than a bag of cheap ones, a seed packet for her balcony, a Polaroid of the two of you, a hair clip she’ll actually wear, and handwritten coupons for the days in between. The 24 ideas above work on paper too.

Ready-made calendars (beauty, tea, jewelry, chocolate) are a quick, pretty treat. They aren’t personal by design, which is fine if she simply loves the brand.

Free online Advent calendars exist too: AdventMyFriend is completely free with no sign-up, and MyAdvent has a free version with short voice notes. We compared eight makers, free and paid, in the best virtual Advent calendar makers.

Ouvella’s surprise calendar is a paid product made for one person: your words, photos and voice behind each door, opening at midnight her time, hidden until its day, and editable all December, with a reminder the day before a door that is still empty. You can combine both: a homemade box with the QR code in door 1. Everything about it is on our virtual Advent calendar page.

Prefer one big surprise on Christmas Eve? The surprise mini-film (letter, photos, music) opens at the time you choose.

Frequently asked questions

What should I put in an Advent calendar for my girlfriend?

Things that show you pay attention: memories and photos of the two of you, a few voice notes, the song of a moment you shared, small coupons that make her December easier, plans for the two of you, and the biggest surprise behind door 24. One detail only you would know is worth more than a long quote.

How do I make a DIY Advent calendar for her?

Number 24 envelopes, kraft bags or small boxes, fill them with small, specific things (her favorite tea, one good chocolate, a Polaroid of you two, a handwritten coupon) and hang them where she will see them every morning. If she lives far away, a physical one has to be mailed by mid-November, which is where a digital calendar is easier.

How much does the digital Advent calendar cost?

€14.99, paid once per calendar, whether it has 3 doors or 31. There is no subscription and no account to create. Creating it and watching the preview are free: you only pay when you want the link to send her.

Can I add photos, voice notes and songs?

Yes. Each door holds a title, a message of up to 1,200 characters, one photo, one audio clip (your voice recorded in the browser, or a file such as an mp3 or m4a) and one link. A YouTube link to a song or a video plays right inside the door, and so does a Spotify song (as a 30-second preview if she isn’t logged in to Spotify).

Can I fill the doors as December goes on?

Yes. After payment you keep a private link to fill or edit the doors whenever you like, even the night before. If a door is still empty the day before it opens, you get an email reminder. If it opens empty anyway, she sees a short note saying it is still being prepared.

She lives in another time zone. When do the doors open?

At midnight in her time zone: when you create the calendar, you choose where she lives. If you are in New York and she is in London, each door opens at 7 p.m. your time, the evening before. A closed door’s contents are not sent to her phone, so she can’t peek.

Does she need to download anything?

No. It opens in the browser, on a phone or a computer, from a private link or a QR code. No app, no account, for her or for you.

Is it too late to start in December?

No. If you start after December 1, the doors of the days already gone open as soon as she gets the link, and the rest follow one a day until December 24. You can also pick a shorter countdown, for example 7 or 12 doors ending on Christmas Eve.

Is there a free digital Advent calendar?

Yes. AdventMyFriend is completely free, with no sign-up, and MyAdvent has a free version with voice notes of up to 20 seconds and videos by YouTube link. Ouvella costs €14.99 once: each door stays hidden until midnight in her time zone, you record your voice right in the browser, and you can fill the doors after paying, with an email reminder the day before a door that is still empty. We compared eight makers, free and paid, on our best virtual Advent calendar makers page.
