Cookies and trackers

This page lists all the cookies and other trackers Ouvella may use on your device, what they are for and how long they last. Ouvella sets no advertising cookies and sells no data.

What a tracker is

A cookie is a small file a website places on your device. Your browser’s local storage (localStorage, sessionStorage and IndexedDB) plays a similar role: both are called trackers. Those strictly necessary for the site or for the service you request do not need your consent; the others are only used if you accept them.

Necessary for the site to work

These trackers are only used to make the site work and do not require your consent:

• NEXT_LOCALE and NEXT_LOCALE_V (cookies): remember the language you chose with the language selector. 12 months.
• NEXT_LOCALE_AUTO (cookie): remembers the language detected from your browser settings, to show you the site in that language without asking again. 30 days.
• ov_consent and ov_consent_srv: store your choice in the cookie banner (“Accept” or “Decline”), so we don’t ask you again on every visit; ov_consent_srv only records that the server saved this choice again, so that it also lasts 6 months on Safari and on iPhone. 6 months.
• Your browser’s local storage: your creation in progress (so nothing is lost if you close the page); for a calendar, the doors already opened, whether its welcome message was already shown to you, and display settings (simple or 3D view, slow device); whether you already reacted to a gift or were already offered to reply to it; whether you already answered the question about how you discovered Ouvella (ov_declared_source); and the code that lets you edit your message on a group card. This information stays on your device until you clear the site’s data; only your creation is also saved on our servers, so it can be delivered. After a loading error, the site also keeps, for the rest of your session, the time it last reloaded the page by itself, so that it never reloads in a loop.
• Image of your 3D calendar (IndexedDB): when you open a calendar in 3D, a still image of it, with its title, is kept in your browser to show it at once on your next visit. It is no longer used after 45 days and is then erased on your next visit, as it is as soon as you choose the simple view or the calendar is no longer available.
• Stripe (payment): the payment form built into our creation pages is provided by Stripe, which may set its own cookies to secure the payment and prevent fraud (Stripe’s policy). They only concern the pages where you create and pay for a gift, and Stripe’s payment page if the payment takes place there.

Cookieless audience measurement

Vercel Web Analytics measures site traffic without setting any cookie or storing anything on your device: it produces aggregated statistics (pages viewed, referring site, country, device type), with no identifier kept for more than 24 hours. It therefore does not require your consent.

Where your visit comes from: only if you accept

If you click “Accept” in the cookie banner, and only then, Ouvella records where your visit comes from (search engine, AI assistant, social network, campaign, another gift…) and links it to your order if you buy, to know which channels bring us customers:

• ov_vid (cookie): a random identifier of your browser, which links your visits to an order. 12 months.
• ov_touch (local storage): the source of your first and last visit, and the landing page. Stays on your device until you decline or clear the site’s data.
• ov_last_attr (local storage): the last source other than a direct visit, taken into account for 30 days.
• scangift_attr, scangift_asid, ov_touch_done and ov_touch_base (session storage): the source and a random number of the current visit; erased when you close the tab.

Music players, videos and maps

If the person giving you a gift added a YouTube or Spotify link to it, the gift shows that service’s player when you choose to listen to the music (or open the calendar door that contains it). YouTube is embedded in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Once the player is shown, YouTube (Google) and Spotify may set their own cookies, under their own rules: Ouvella has no access to them. The same applies to a YouTube video or an OpenStreetMap map added to some universes.

Accept, refuse, change your mind

Refusing changes nothing about using the site: you can create, pay for, receive and open a gift in exactly the same way. You can change your mind at any time with the “Manage my cookies” button at the bottom of this page: if you decline, even after accepting, the visit-origin trackers are erased from your device. You can also delete the site’s cookies and local storage from your browser settings; erasing the necessary trackers may, however, make you lose your language or your creation in progress.
