Comparison · November 2026
The best birthday website makers: 9 compared, free options included
Updated · by Milad, founder of Ouvella
A birthday website is a page made for one person: your photos, your words, their song, opened from a link or a QR code. You can design it yourself with a general builder, or fill in a dedicated maker in ten minutes. They differ on things that matter on the day: what is really free, whether it can open at midnight without you sending it, whether your voice fits in, and whether it is still online next year. We read the official pages of nine of them.
The short version: for zero cost and full control, Carrd or Canva. For a game-like 3D party at midnight their time, 2luv. For a long letter, OpenYourLetter. For a birthday surprise with your voice that unlocks at the minute you choose and stays online for years, Ouvella, at €9.99 once.
Ouvella is our product. So we are not neutral: we listed it with its limits, we say plainly when another tool fits better, and every fact about the others comes from their own pages, read on November 2, 2026 and listed at the bottom. No affiliate links, and nobody paid to be here.

The 9 in detail
The order is not a ranking: first the two builders you design yourself, then the dedicated makers.
Tool 1: Carrd
Best for designing a fully custom page yourself, for little or nothing
A general one-page website builder, not a gift product. Many people use it to hand-build a birthday page: you place each text, photo and button yourself, starting from a template or a blank page.
- Price:
- Free for up to 3 sites. Pro Lite $9 a year, Pro Standard $19 a year, Pro Plus $49 a year, with a 7-day free trial.
- Free?
- Yes, 3 sites with the core features and a “Made with Carrd” footer.
What it does well
- Complete freedom over the design
- Embedded videos on any plan; uploaded videos from Pro Lite
- A QR code from Pro Lite ($9 a year)
Good to know
- Music is embedded from hosts such as SoundCloud or Bandcamp; recording a voice note is not stated
- A password needs Pro Plus ($49 a year)
- No birthday-specific template or countdown stated, and you build it element by element
Tool 2: Canva Websites
Best for a free photo-and-text page from a birthday template
Canva’s no-code website builder. You start from one of its “Birthday Website” templates and drag in photos, text, graphics and videos, then publish it on a my.canva.site address.
- Price:
- Free on a my.canva.site address. Your own domain needs Canva Pro (its price depends on your country) plus the domain, which Canva puts at $10 to $20 a year.
- Free?
- Yes, up to 5 live websites, with a “Designed with Canva” footer.
What it does well
- Designer-made birthday templates, if you already know Canva
- Images, videos and animations on the page
- Password protection in the website settings (the plan it needs is not stated)
Good to know
- No audio on Websites, according to Canva’s help: no song and no voice message
- You need a Canva account; a countdown and how long a free site stays online are not stated
Tool 3: Gifts QR
Best for a quick birthday page with a QR code for the card or the cake
A catalog of link and QR surprise pages; the birthday one holds a countdown, photos, wishes, a letter and music, built in four guided steps.
- Price:
- $7 once (online for 30 days, up to 5 photos) or $9 once (a lifetime link that never expires, unlimited photos). Prices adjust by country.
- Free?
- Its pages disagree: the birthday page is titled “Free”, while the pricing page says you unlock a plan before sending and mentions a free preview that stops after 6 hours.
What it does well
- A QR code to print on a card, a cake topper or a gift box
- A built-in countdown
- Opens in any mobile browser, no app
Good to know
- Voice messages and a password are separate Gifts QR products, not part of the birthday page
- Music by YouTube link; the $7 plan lasts 30 days
Tool 4: 2luv
Best for a game-like 3D party, with candles they blow out
A digital birthday party: a 3D cake and balloons with their age, your letter, photos and their favourite song, and games such as a claw machine and a photo booth.
- Price:
- €12.90 (Birthday Letter) or €19.90 (Birthday Party, or Letter + eCards) once, as shown to us from France; charged in your local currency.

- A link and a QR code, an optional password, and edits after unlocking
- 12 languages
Good to know
- A voice message and video are not stated
- How long the gift stays online is not stated on its birthday pages
Tool 5: Wishprise
Best for a same-day 3D cake with a voice message, for the price of a coffee
An interactive 3D birthday cake surprise sent as a link, with a photo next to the cake, music and a recorded voice message.
- Price:
- US$1.49 outside India and Asia (US$0.99 in Asia, ₹49 in India); the final amount is shown at checkout.
- Free?
- Free to build; a one-time payment reveals and shares the link.
What it does well
- A voice message recorded inside the surprise
- No account needed
- Themes and pages for a girlfriend or a boyfriend
Good to know
- The link lasts 48 hours, then the content is no longer accessible
- One photo; a password, a QR code and a scheduled opening are not stated
Tool 6: WishHappyBday
Best for a free one-day page that friends can sign
A one-day birthday website for one person: three photos, your messages, a soundtrack and a Love, Friend or Family template, which guests can open and add their own wish to.
- Price:
- Free for the Standard page. Premium $1 and Birthday Story $3, once (shown as discounts from $5 and $10).
- Free?
- Yes: build, preview and publish a Standard page.
What it does well
- Guests can leave a wish without an account
- You choose a start time before publishing
- Paid plans add an MP4 video to download; Birthday Story adds a quiz
Good to know
- Live for 24 hours only
- A creator account is required, 3 photos, and music from its included tracks
Tool 7: GiftFeels
Best for people who send gifts often, and want to know when it’s opened
Animated gift templates sent as a private link; the birthday one opens on a red curtain, with a cake showing their age in candles and balloons hiding your photos.
- Price:
- €5.99 per gift, or €8.99 a month for every gift, as shown to us from France (priced for your country).
- Free?
- Free to create and preview; you pay once to send.
What it does well
- Photos with captions, a voice note, and an optional song with their name
- An alert when they open it
- An unguessable link that is never indexed
Good to know
- Links stay live 90 days, which you can extend
- No scheduled opening (its advice: send it yourself at midnight); you sign in with Google to build
- Its pages disagree on whether the voice note is free or part of the monthly plan
Tool 8: OpenYourLetter
Best for a long, heartfelt letter, with examples and writing help
A birthday letter that opens in the browser, with up to 10 captioned photos and a music link, ready-made examples to start from and a writing assistant; an optional bundle adds interactive cards.

What it does well
- The bundle adds cards such as a countdown, a star map and a timeline, and a voice memo card after payment
- An optional password and a QR code
- No app or account for the recipient
Good to know
- Automatic scheduled delivery is not included

Number 9, in full transparency
Ouvella is an independent site, created by Milad. It is not a page you design: it is a surprise you fill in, opened like an envelope and then scrolled through, that unlocks at the moment you choose. Pick Ouvella if:
- you want it locked behind a countdown until midnight on their birthday, even if you are asleep (in your time zone or theirs)
- you want your own voice in it, next to your letter, your photos and their song
- you want them to open it again next year: it stays online for at least 5 years
- you want a QR code on a printed card, for a birthday you spend together
Pick something else if you want to design every pixel (Carrd, Canva), a 3D cake and games (2luv, Wishprise), or a page friends can all sign (WishHappyBday).
Birthday website for free: what actually works
What genuinely costs nothing, and where each option falls short.
A free Carrd site
Good: Up to 3 sites with every core feature, and total freedom over the layout.
Catch: A “Made with Carrd” footer, music only embedded from another host, and a QR code or password need a paid plan.
A free Canva website
Good: Ready-made “Birthday Website” templates, published on a my.canva.site address, up to 5 sites.
Catch: No song or voice message on Websites, according to Canva’s help, and a “Designed with Canva” footer.
A free WishHappyBday page
Good: Three photos, your messages and a soundtrack, and friends can add their wishes.
Catch: It stays live for 24 hours, and you need a creator account.
A page you code yourself
Good: The YouTube tutorials that rank for “birthday website for girlfriend” show how to write one in HTML and host it free, for example on GitHub Pages.
Catch: You write the code, and anyone with the address can open it unless you add protection yourself.
How to make a birthday website for someone, in 5 steps
1. Pick five to ten photos
One per year together, or one per memory you want to bring up. Fewer, better photos beat an album. Check the photo limit first: 5 on Gifts QR’s $7 plan, 3 on a WishHappyBday page, 10 on OpenYourLetter.
2. Write the letter in your own words
Three short paragraphs are enough: a memory only the two of you share, what you admire in them this year, a wish for the year ahead. If you are stuck, our paragraphs for your girlfriend are free to borrow and adapt.
3. Add their song, or your voice
A song sets the mood; a thirty-second voice note is what people replay. Check what each tool accepts: an embedded player, a YouTube or Spotify link, included tracks, or a recording.
4. Choose the moment it opens
Midnight on the birthday is the classic. 2luv and Ouvella can hold it until then on their own, and WishHappyBday lets you pick a start time; elsewhere you send the link yourself at the right minute. Living apart? See our digital gifts for long-distance couples.
5. Share a link, or print a QR code
Send the link by text at midnight, or slip a QR code into a paper card with their present. Gifts QR, 2luv, OpenYourLetter and Ouvella give you a QR code; on Carrd it needs Pro Lite.
How we made this list
- What Americans see. On November 2, 2026 we searched Bing (US market) and Google (US) for “birthday website maker”, “make a birthday website for my boyfriend” and similar queries, and kept the tools that rank or that AI answers cite, plus the two builders the tutorials use.
- Official pages only. Each tool’s home, pricing, FAQ, help or terms pages. No third-party reviews, nothing from memory: the addresses are in the sources below. Where a site’s own pages disagree, we say so.
- What we didn’t do. We did not buy on every site. When a page doesn’t say, we write “not stated” rather than guess.
- Ouvella is our product. It is on the list with its limits, and the order is not a ranking. No affiliate links, and nobody paid to appear.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best birthday website maker?
It depends on what you want to give. To design every detail yourself, Carrd or Canva Websites, both free to start. For a QR code on the card, Gifts QR. For a game-like 3D party that opens at midnight their time, 2luv. For a voice message on a 3D cake for the day only, Wishprise. For a free page friends can sign for 24 hours, WishHappyBday. For a long letter with examples and writing help, OpenYourLetter. For a birthday surprise with your voice that unlocks at the minute you choose and stays online for years, Ouvella (our product, €9.99).
Can I make a birthday website for free?
Yes. Carrd is free for up to 3 sites with a “Made with Carrd” footer. Canva Websites is free on a my.canva.site address, without audio. WishHappyBday’s Standard page is free and stays live for 24 hours. You can also code a page yourself and host it free. The dedicated makers (Gifts QR, 2luv, Wishprise, GiftFeels, OpenYourLetter, Ouvella) let you build and preview for free, then charge once to share, from US$1.49 to $19.90.
How do I make a birthday website for my boyfriend or girlfriend?
Gather a handful of photos and one memory for each, write a letter in your own words, pick your song or record a voice note, then choose the moment it should open, usually midnight on the birthday. With a dedicated maker it takes ten to twenty minutes and no design skills: you fill in a form and share a link or a QR code. With Carrd or Canva you design the page yourself, which takes longer but gives you full control.
Can a birthday website open at midnight on their birthday?
On some sites, yes. 2luv counts down and plays the party at midnight in their time zone. Ouvella unlocks at the date and time you set, in your time zone or theirs; until then they see a countdown and nothing inside. WishHappyBday lets you pick a start time. GiftFeels suggests sending your link yourself at midnight, OpenYourLetter says automatic scheduled delivery is not included, and the others do not state it.
How long does a birthday website stay online?
It varies a lot. WishHappyBday pages stay live for 24 hours and Wishprise links for 48 hours. GiftFeels links last 90 days and can be extended. Gifts QR lasts 30 days on its $7 plan and never expires on its $9 plan. Ouvella keeps each gift online for at least 5 years. OpenYourLetter does not promise permanent hosting, 2luv does not state it, and a Carrd Pro site renews every year.
Can I add music or a voice message?
Music, on most of them: an embedded player on Carrd, a YouTube link on Gifts QR, a YouTube or Spotify link on OpenYourLetter, included tracks on WishHappyBday, your song on 2luv, GiftFeels and Ouvella. Canva’s help says Websites do not support audio. A recorded voice message: Wishprise, GiftFeels, OpenYourLetter (a voice memo card in its bundle) and Ouvella; on Gifts QR it is a separate product.
What about WishCupid and Forevermore?
Both make personal birthday surprises too: WishCupid from India, priced in rupees, with a 3D cake and mini-games, and Forevermore, an animated world from $10 to $30. We compared them with Ouvella, from their own pages, on a dedicated page: WishCupid vs Forevermore vs Ouvella.
